towrope

Water-skier's lifeline

A towrope is a rope or cable used to pull something—a water skier behind a boat, a disabled vehicle behind another, or a barge behind a tugboat.

The term applies whether the line is actual rope, nylon cord, or steel cable: Grab the towrope and I'll pull you up.
