parasail

Boat-towed canopy

A parasail is a parachute-like canopy towed behind a boat, lifting the rider into the air.

The activity combines elements of parachuting and sailing—you're harnessed to the chute while a speedboat pulls you aloft over water.

To parasail is to ride one: We parasailed over the bay on vacation.

Also called parasailing.
