dock line

Vessel securing rope

A dock line is a rope used to secure a boat to a dock, pier, or mooring.

Boats typically use multiple dock lines—bow lines, stern lines, and spring lines—to prevent movement in various directions: Check the dock lines before the storm hits.

Also called a mooring line.
