push bar
Emergency door release
A push bar is a horizontal bar mounted across a door that opens the latch when pushed, allowing quick exit without turning a handle.
Required by fire codes on emergency exits in commercial buildings, push bars enable crowds to escape simply by pressing against the door.
Also called a panic bar or crash bar.
