tomahawk

Indigenous chopping tool

A tomahawk is a light ax traditionally used by Native Americans of eastern North America, with a straight handle and a head that may be stone or metal.

The word entered English from Algonquian languages.

To tomahawk is to strike or kill with one.

In sports, a tomahawk describes an overhead chopping motion: a tomahawk dunk, a tomahawk chop.
