subsonic
Slower than sound
Subsonic means slower than the speed of sound—roughly 767 miles per hour at sea level.
The term applies primarily to aircraft and projectiles: subsonic ammunition, a subsonic cruise speed.
Subsonic also describes sound frequencies below the range of human hearing, typically under 20 hertz, though infrasonic is more precise for that sense.
