war hammer
Medieval crushing weapon
A war hammer is a medieval weapon with a heavy metal head mounted on a shaft, designed for crushing armor.
Unlike a carpenter's hammer, the war hammer typically has a blunt striking face on one side and a spike or beak on the other for piercing plate armor: Knights carried war hammers when swords proved ineffective against heavy armor.
Also spelled warhammer.
