claymore

Scottish two-hander weapon

A claymore is a large two-handed sword historically used by Scottish Highlanders, characterized by its long blade and cross-shaped hilt.

The word now more commonly refers to a type of directional antipersonnel mine used by military forces: The patrol set up claymores along the perimeter.

The mine's casing famously reads "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY."
