lords

Men of rank

Lords is the plural of lord, a man of high rank or authority.

In British nobility, lords hold titles such as baron, viscount, earl, marquess, or duke.

The word extends to anyone with power over others: feudal lords, drug lords, landlords.

To lord over someone is to dominate them arrogantly: He lords his success over his siblings. (Capitalized Lords refers to the House of Lords or the cricket ground.)
