tilde

Spanish letter accent

A tilde is the wavy horizontal mark (~), used in Spanish over the letter n (ñ) to indicate a palatal nasal sound, and in Portuguese over vowels to indicate nasalization.

In computing, the tilde appears in URLs, file paths, and programming languages with various technical functions.

Informally, tildes flanking a word add a playful or ironic tone: ~vibes~.
