double dagger
Third reference mark
A double dagger (‡) is a typographical symbol used primarily as a reference mark, typically indicating a third footnote when asterisk (*) and dagger (†) have already been used.
In scholarly texts, it often marks a person's death date, particularly when paired with a dagger marking birth.
Also called a diesis.
