undulation

Rising and falling

Undulation is a smooth, wavelike motion or form.

Water undulates, as do flags in wind, fields of grain, and rolling hills.

The word applies to any rising-and-falling movement or shape: the undulation of a snake's body, gentle undulations in the landscape.

To undulate is to move in this flowing, wave-like manner.
