Alamo

Siege site, remembered

The Alamo is a former Spanish mission in San Antonio, Texas, site of a famous 1836 battle where Mexican forces overwhelmed a small group of Texan defenders.

Remember the Alamo became a rallying cry for Texan independence.

The name now evokes last stands and defiant resistance against overwhelming odds: They made their Alamo in the conference room, refusing to back down. (Lowercase alamo is a poplar tree.)
