boreal forest
Cold conifer biome
Boreal forest is the vast band of coniferous woodland circling the Northern Hemisphere just below the Arctic, dominated by spruce, fir, and pine.
Also called taiga, it spans Alaska, Canada, Scandinavia, and Siberia—the world's largest land biome.
The climate is harsh: long winters, short summers, thin acidic soil.
Caribou migrate through the boreal forest each spring.
