agrofuel

Farm-derived energy source

Agrofuel is fuel derived from agricultural crops or plant materials—corn for ethanol, soybeans for biodiesel, sugarcane for bioethanol.

The term is sometimes preferred over "biofuel" by critics who emphasize that dedicating farmland to fuel production competes with food crops: The shift to agrofuels has driven up grain prices worldwide.
