floss

String for teeth

Floss is thin thread used to clean between teeth, or the act of using it: I need to floss more often.

The word extends to anything similarly wispy—candy floss (British for cotton candy), silk floss from certain seed pods.

In slang, to floss means to show off wealth or status, displaying expensive possessions conspicuously: He was flossing his new watch on Instagram.
