French seam

Hidden-edge joining method

A French seam is a sewing technique that encloses raw fabric edges within the seam itself, creating a neat finish on both sides.

The fabric is first sewn wrong sides together, then folded and sewn again with right sides together, hiding the raw edges inside.

French seams appear in fine garments and sheer fabrics where exposed edges would look unfinished: The blouse was finished with French seams throughout.
