unstitched

Thread pulled loose

Unstitched describes something that has had its stitches removed or has come apart at the seams, whether literally or figuratively.

A hem comes unstitched when the thread loosens; a person comes unstitched when they lose composure or fall apart emotionally: She came completely unstitched after the diagnosis.

In South Asian fashion contexts, unstitched fabric refers to cloth sold in lengths that the buyer will have tailored into garments, as opposed to ready-made clothing.
