Touchscreen communication devices
Smartphones are mobile phones with advanced computing capabilities—essentially pocket-sized computers that also make calls.
They run apps, connect to the internet, take photos, and handle tasks once requiring separate devices: camera, GPS, music player, calendar.
The term emerged in the late 1990s but became ubiquitous after touchscreen models transformed daily life: I left my smartphone at home and felt lost all day.
