Facebook is a social media platform where users create profiles, connect with friends and family, and share posts, photos, and videos.
Launched in 2004, it became the dominant social network worldwide.
The name comes from directories of student photos distributed at some American universities.
As a verb, to facebook someone is to look them up on the platform: I facebooked my old roommate.
