side stitch

Abdominal exercise pain

A side stitch is a sharp, cramping pain in the side of the abdomen, typically occurring during physical exertion like running.

The exact cause remains debated, but it often strikes when breathing is labored or after eating too soon before exercise: I had to slow down because of a side stitch.

Also called a side ache or side cramp.
