sports hernia
Athletic core tear
A sports hernia is a painful soft tissue injury in the groin area, typically caused by sudden twisting movements in athletics.
Despite the name, it's not a true hernia—there's no visible bulge or protrusion.
The injury involves tears or strains in the muscles, tendons, or ligaments of the lower abdomen or pubic area.
Common in hockey, soccer, and football players: He missed six weeks recovering from a sports hernia.
