stabbing
Sharp, sudden pain
Stabbing describes a sharp, sudden, piercing sensation or action.
As an adjective, it most often modifies pain: a stabbing pain in my chest suggests something intense and localized, as if caused by a knife.
The noun stabbing refers to an attack in which someone is wounded or killed with a pointed weapon.
The word carries violence in both uses—whether literal assault or the figurative assault of acute physical discomfort.
