herniated disc
Ruptured spinal cushion
A herniated disc is a spinal condition in which the soft inner material of an intervertebral disc pushes through a tear in its tougher outer layer, often pressing on nearby nerves.
This causes pain, numbness, or weakness, typically in the lower back or neck, radiating into the arms or legs.
The condition is also called a slipped disc or ruptured disc, though the disc doesn't actually slip out of place.
The MRI confirmed a herniated disc was causing her sciatica.
