desert plant

Tumbleweed or sagebrush

A desert plant is any plant adapted to survive in arid environments with minimal water.

Desert plants typically have specialized features—thick waxy leaves, deep root systems, or the ability to store water—that allow them to thrive where most vegetation cannot: Cacti and succulents are classic desert plants.

The term applies both to plants native to deserts and to drought-tolerant species used in xeriscaping.
