freshwater marsh
Reedy shallow habitat
A freshwater marsh is a wetland ecosystem where water from rivers, lakes, or groundwater keeps the soil saturated, supporting grasses, reeds, and sedges rather than trees.
Unlike saltwater marshes, they contain little or no dissolved salt.
Freshwater marshes provide habitat for waterfowl, amphibians, and fish, and help filter pollutants from water systems.
