haul-out

Marine mammal landing

A haul-out is a place where marine mammals—seals, sea lions, walruses—come ashore to rest, molt, breed, or give birth.

The term also refers to the behavior itself: The beach serves as a haul-out for harbor seals.

In boating, a haul-out is when a vessel is pulled from the water for maintenance or storage.
