dry dock

Emptied repair berth

A dry dock is an enclosed basin that can be drained of water, allowing ships to be inspected, repaired, or built while resting on supports.

The vessel enters through floodgates, which close before pumps remove the water.

As a verb, to dry-dock a ship is to bring it into such a facility: The carrier was dry-docked for hull repairs.
