Farm storage tower
A silo is a tall cylindrical structure for storing grain or fodder on a farm.
The term extends to any isolated storage system, and figuratively to organizational divisions that don't communicate with each other: The marketing and engineering teams work in silos.
To silo information is to keep it compartmentalized: Data gets siloed across different departments.
A missile silo is an underground launch facility.
