stored procedure

Saved database routine

A stored procedure is a prewritten set of database commands saved on a server and executed as a unit.

Rather than sending multiple queries from an application, you call the stored procedure by name: The stored procedure handles all the validation logic.

Stored procedures improve performance and consistency, since the database engine compiles and optimizes the code once.
