columbarium
Niche wall vault
A columbarium is a structure with niches for storing urns containing cremated remains.
The word comes from the Latin for dovecote—the grid of small compartments resembles pigeonholes.
Columbariums are found in cemeteries, churches, and memorial gardens: Her ashes were placed in the columbarium beside her husband's.
