podiums

Stages for speeches

Podiums is the plural of podium, a raised platform for speakers, conductors, or award recipients.

Athletes stand on the podium to receive medals; speakers address audiences from behind one.

The word also refers to lecterns, though purists distinguish between the platform you stand on (podium) and the stand you speak from (lectern).

The Latin plural podia exists but sounds pretentious in casual use.
