plinth

Column's stone foundation

A plinth is the heavy base or platform on which a column, statue, or structure rests.

In architecture, it's the lowest part of a base, forming a visible foundation.

The term extends to any base that elevates and displays something: The sculpture stood on a marble plinth.

In British usage, a plinth can also be the baseboard running along the bottom of a wall or cabinet.
