oxyhemoglobin

Red cell cargo

Oxyhemoglobin is hemoglobin bound to oxygen.

When blood passes through the lungs, hemoglobin in red blood cells picks up oxygen molecules, becoming oxyhemoglobin—the bright red form that gives arterial blood its color.

As blood circulates to tissues, the oxygen releases and the hemoglobin reverts to its darker, deoxygenated state.
