rebreather

Closed-circuit breathing apparatus

A rebreather is a breathing apparatus that recycles exhaled air by removing carbon dioxide and replenishing oxygen, allowing the user to breathe the same air repeatedly.

Unlike scuba tanks that release exhaled bubbles, rebreathers operate nearly silently and extend dive time significantly.

They're used by military divers, cave explorers, and technical divers: The Navy SEALs approached underwater using rebreathers to avoid detection.
