kidney

Urine-producing organ

A kidney is one of two bean-shaped organs in the lower back that filter blood and produce urine.

The word extends to this organ as food: steak and kidney pie.

Kidney also appears in kidney bean, named for its shape.

To describe something as being of the same kidney is to say it's of the same type or temperament—an old-fashioned usage.
