glomerulus
Renal filtration unit
A glomerulus is a tiny cluster of capillaries in the kidney that filters blood to form urine.
Each kidney contains about a million of these microscopic tufts, nestled within cup-shaped structures called Bowman's capsules.
The term also applies to similar ball-shaped clusters of nerve fibers in the brain's olfactory bulb.
Plural: glomeruli.
