Diesel deceleration device
A jake brake is an engine braking system used on large diesel trucks, named after the Jacobs Engine Brake company that developed it.
Instead of relying on wheel brakes, it uses the engine's compression to slow the vehicle.
Jake brakes produce a distinctive loud stuttering roar, which is why signs in residential areas often read No Engine Braking or No Jake Brakes.
