road train

Multi-trailer truck rig

A road train is a trucking rig consisting of a prime mover pulling two or more trailers linked together, creating a vehicle that can stretch over 150 feet long.

Road trains are most associated with the Australian Outback, where they haul freight across vast distances on remote highways where conventional trucks would be impractical.

We pulled over to let the road train pass on the narrow desert road.

The term distinguishes these multi-trailer combinations from standard semi-trucks with a single trailer.
