power stroke
Piston's working phase
Power stroke refers to the phase of an engine cycle when combustion forces the piston downward, generating the actual work output.
In a four-stroke engine, it's the third stroke—after intake, compression, and ignition.
The term extends to any forceful movement that produces useful work: the power stroke of a rowing oar, a swimming stroke, or a golf swing.
The engine misfired during the power stroke.
