iceman

Cold block hauler

An iceman was a person who delivered blocks of ice to homes and businesses before electric refrigeration became standard, typically in the early 20th century.

The ice kept food cold in insulated boxes called iceboxes.

The term survives mainly in historical contexts and the phrase cometh the iceman.

In slang, an iceman is someone cold-blooded or unflappable, especially a hired killer.
