icefield

Polar ice sheet

An icefield is a large expanse of interconnected glaciers or permanent ice covering a mountainous region, with peaks and ridges protruding through the surface.

Smaller than an ice sheet but substantial—often hundreds of square miles.

The Columbia Icefield in the Canadian Rockies is a well-known example.

We could see the icefield stretching to the horizon.
