Ötzi

Alpine glacier corpse

Ötzi is the nickname for a naturally mummified man discovered in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps on the Austrian-Italian border.

Dating to around 3300 BCE, he is Europe's oldest known human mummy.

The remarkably preserved remains—along with his clothing, tools, and weapons—have provided extraordinary insight into Copper Age life.

He died from an arrow wound to the shoulder.
