huppah

Bridal ceremony covering

A huppah is the canopy under which a Jewish wedding ceremony takes place.

It symbolizes the home the couple will build together and their welcome of guests.

The structure typically consists of a cloth or tallit (prayer shawl) supported by four poles: The bride and groom stood beneath the huppah as the rabbi recited the blessings.

Also spelled chuppah.
