chuppah

Jewish bridal canopy

A chuppah is the canopy under which a Jewish wedding ceremony takes place.

It consists of a cloth or sheet supported by four poles, symbolizing the home the couple will build together.

The bride and groom stand beneath it along with the officiant: They exchanged vows under the chuppah.

Also spelled huppah.
