ketubah

Jewish wedding contract

A ketubah is a Jewish marriage contract, traditionally written in Aramaic and signed before the wedding ceremony.

It specifies the groom's obligations to the bride—financial support, clothing, conjugal rights—and provisions if the marriage ends.

Modern ketubahs often feature decorative calligraphy and artwork, displayed in the couple's home.

Plural: ketubot or ketubahs.
