hen
Coop's female resident
A hen is an adult female chicken, distinguished from a rooster (male) and chick (young).
The term extends to females of other birds: a hen pheasant, a hen turkey.
Informally, hen describes a fussy or gossipy woman, now somewhat dated.
A hen party is a women-only gathering, especially before a wedding.
To hen-peck is to nag persistently.
