growling

Deep angry sound

Growling is the low, rumbling sound made in the throat, typically by dogs or other animals as a warning or sign of aggression.

Humans growl too, usually to express anger, frustration, or impatience: My stomach was growling through the whole meeting.

The word also describes rough, gravelly vocal qualities in speech or singing—a bluesman's growling voice, or someone growling a threat through clenched teeth.
