mothering
Caring for offspring
Mothering is the act of caring for someone as a mother would—nurturing, protecting, and tending to needs.
The term applies regardless of the caregiver's gender or relation: He did most of the mothering while she worked.
Mothering can carry a negative edge when it suggests excessive or unwanted fussing: Stop mothering me, I can take care of myself.
