A halo is a circle of light, originally the luminous ring sometimes seen around the sun or moon due to ice crystals in the atmosphere.
In religious art, a halo is the golden disk or ring depicted around the heads of saints and holy figures, symbolizing divine radiance.
By extension, anything that surrounds something like a glowing ring can be called a halo: a halo of frizzy hair, a halo of smoke.
To halo something is to encircle it with light or glory. (Capitalized Halo is the video game franchise.)
